Candice is an ASL/English interpreter and a founder of Sign Language Interpreting Associates Ottawa. She continues to work with SLIAO as Director of Operations, providing ASL interpreting services, and coordinating scheduling of interpreters as well as being the main contact with established clients such as PWGSC and MAG.
Candice is currently the Vice-president of SLINC (Sign Language Interpreters of the National Capital), and has served in various capacities since 1991. She is also an active member of AVLIC (Association of Visual Language Interpreters of Canada)
Candice began her sign language interpreting career in Vancouver after having graduated from the Vancouver Community College Interpreter Training Program in 1985. Her experience in Vancouver was focused initially on serving the Deaf community through the Elementary Education School system and eventually as an employee of the Federal Government as a sign language interpreter for the Public Service Commission.
Following her move to Ottawa in 1991, she established her sign language credentials in the National Capital Region initially through Algonquin College and subsequently through Carleton University and University of Ottawa. As noted above, she has been a leading practitioner in the field since that time through her roles with SLIAO and SLINC.
Candice has been involved in many volunteer activities. These include her current role as Chairperson of Total Communication Environment (a non-profit charitable organization that provides lifetime residential support, community participation, day services and outreach to long term care for adults with multiple disabilities and special communication needs.).
